In January 2007, the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership launched its new marketing and branding campaign for the retail district, Home Grown & Locally Owned. The campaign focuses on Myrtle Avenue's competitive advantage, that being its neighborhood scale and feel, its predominance of mom and pop businesses, and the number of well-known neighborhood fixtures and personalities that have long-owned or recently opened businesses on the avenue. With 95% of its business being locally-owned, Myrtle Avenue in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill is truly a community "Main Street". The first round of images, printed on postcards and as ads in local publications, features 18 avenue business owners.

From your family-owned hardware store to your mom and pop cafe to your friendly neighborhood mechanic, Myrtle's merchants are your neighbors in business, and the entire community benefits when our commercial districts thrive. If you haven't visited the avenue lately, it's time to pay your neighbors a visit.
