Friday is a perfect day for a spa opening (with thoughts focused towards the weekend and relaxation). And ANY day of the week is perfect for enjoying one.

The spa at Karen's Body Beautiful opens tomorrow, Friday, July 16th. Stop in and pick up a menu of services or better yet, stop in and enjoy a service or two. KBB will offer a plethora of services, including pedicures, manicures, facial and wet room services (herbal wraps, body exfoliation, etc.). Free hand lotion with a manicure on opening day.

The spa is actually a natural progression for the business. With the sleek look of the KBB store and the yummy-smelling and feeling natural hair, bath and body products made on premises (which of course are still available!), Karen and employees would very often get requests to see their menu of spa services.

So, wait no further. Stop in and check out the newest spa on Myrtle Avenue. Karen is located at 436 Myrtle Avenue between Clinton and Waverly Avenues. Drop in or call 718.797.4808 for an appointment.

Yamashiro Re-opens w/Funkier Look

Yamashiro reopened on July 13th, right on schedule.

After a very brief hiatus to make some aesthetic adjustments, the restaurant has reopened, sporting a much funkier and definitely more well-lit look. Light gray walls, new multi-colored lighting installed on the ceiling and at the base of the sushi bar gives the restaurant a more modern flair. A projected waterfall on the wall behind the sushi bar area will be added by the weekend or early next week.

The food is just as fresh and delicious as ALWAYS, so stop in soon.

Yamashiro is located at 466 Myrtle Avenue between Washington Avenue and Hall Street. Call 718.230.3313 for additional details.

Party Over Here: Dope Jams 4th Anniversary on Saturday!

Throw your hands in the air, and wave them like you just don't care for a darned good reason: Dope Jams
4th anniversary celebration. CooooooooCooooooooooooooooooo!!!
Party over here.

The celebration is this Saturday, June 26th. Tickets required to gain entry, and are only available by advanced purchase at Dope Jams. You don't want to miss this! Tickets are $10. Dope Jams is located at 580 Myrtle Avenue, between Emerson and Classon. For more info, call 718.622.7977.

Here's more from Dope Jams:

It seems to us that 4 years is as good a reason as any to push aside concerns of social convention and self-image in honor of what the store has always devoted its entire energies towards: sheer revelry, unrestrained pleasure & pure sound, the heart of NYCs dance music legacy, a smoldering fire that still burns beneath the ashes of boredom and gentrification that have consumed much of this beloved metropolis. Fear not, however, as it IS still possible to have a good time in this crazy town we call home, a fact that attendees of Dope Jams infamous parties previous know well. Having refurbished the store in anticipation of the droves of diverse party enthusiasts that have come to adore these special events, the store & its faithful staff have already begun the preparations for what we hope will be the most full-fledged exercise in self-liberation and communal transcendence weve seen yet.

Paul Nickerson, Francis Englehardt & Nick Hallstrom will be programming in line with Dope Jams customarily belligerent eclecticism, with the basic objective of rocking the party at all costs---theirs & yours. So come join us in celebration of another year of Dope Jams existence, take a good look backwards at hard fought accomplishments of past, a hard look forward into a future as yet still unknown, but most importantly a momentary forgetting of these restraints of time, work and responsibility in favor of free play and unchecked impulse, where the only duty you will have is to let your self go.

RECORDS PLAYED BY
PAUL NICKERSON, FRANCIS ENGLEHARDT & NICK HALLSTROM

Tickle the Ivories, Tap Your Feet: Make Music New York is Monday!

Are you ready?! We hope so. Make Music New York takes place on Monday, June 21st.

Make Music New York is a live, free musical celebration across the city that takes place each June 21 the longest day of the year.

On that day, hundreds of public spaces throughout the five boroughs sidewalks, parks, community gardens, and more become impromptu stages for over 1,000 free concerts.

Eleven (count 'em: 11!) of the venues (restaurants, cafes, kids clothing store, eco-friendly shop, wine boutique, Fort Greene Park) will take place on Myrtle Avenue. Come out and groove to the music and relax or eat, drink and be merry. See the schedule of events above or below.

And for all you neighborhood Liberaces and local Alicia Keys, the pianos are coming! Sing for Hope
takes music to the streets with Play Me, Im Yours, a public art project that will bring 60 pianos to the parks and public spaces of New York City. Fort Greene Park will have two pianos--one on Myrtle (at the Myrtle entrance to the Fort Greene Park) and another just up the hill at the north oval, just opposite the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument.

The piano will be open and available for anyone to sit and play: Friday, June 18th (being delivered at 4pm) until Monday, July 5th.

The Anima Experience: The Brick Oven's Hot!

The office was abuzz for the whole week at the invitation. Our collective opinion: YUMMMM!!!

Here's the MARP staff skinny:

Blaise:

The Ortolana Pizza

"A perfect size pizza for one, covered in grilled vegetables and just the right amount of mozzarella. Fresh and delicious, with that great brick oven crust that is just a touch burnt on the edges".

Meredith:

Steak Foccacine

"Tender and flavorful hangar steak with mushrooms, sautéed spinach and brick oven bread. Not only was it delicious, it was a generous portion, especially for lunch. I still ate it all."

Sam:

The Norma pizza

"I thought it was great. Simple flavors that went really well together. All the ingredients tasted fresh and well made. Only thing I would change is to put a bit more basil on the pizza."

Sarah:

I had the Nizzarda Focaccine, which may be my new summer meal! Sicilian preserved tuna, anchovies, olives, string beans and red onion, all chilled and tossed in a basalmic vinaigrette and then served on a warm, crispy focaccine! I was surprised and pleased that it was 1. a cold sandwich 2. Such a generous portion. It made a great lunch and would also be perfect with a glass of white wine, on a hot summer afternoon or shared with a friend as an after work snack.

Jennifer:

I had the Toscana: the mozzarella, pulled chicken, onions, potato, rosemary, fontina. I especially liked the way the mozzarella, chicken and onions (onions are a fave) worked together to create this savory and filling meal. It was so generous I had to take the remainder to go. But lets just say my remaining slices didnt quite make it to the end of the day.

Hey, try it for yourself. You'll see. The pizzas and focaccines are brick oven creations, new to the menu. Anima Italian Bistro, call or stop in: 718.422.1122, 458 Myrtle avenue (between Waverly and Washington Avenues).
