Tejada Grocery Store is indeed still on the Avenue, but it has moved 4 doors in to 411 Myrtle Avenue. Look for the brand new awning that will be up shortly.

In the meantime its old digs at 419 Myrtle @ Vanderbilt is available. Situated right on the corner, it is ideal for a restaurant/cafe desiring sidewalk seating but would work well for other commercial activities as well.

The space is 2000sf w/an 800sf basement. Call 718.857.1011 for additional information.

The Anima Experience: The Brick Oven's Hot!

The office was abuzz for the whole week at the invitation. Our collective opinion: YUMMMM!!!

Here's the MARP staff skinny:

Blaise:

The Ortolana Pizza

"A perfect size pizza for one, covered in grilled vegetables and just the right amount of mozzarella. Fresh and delicious, with that great brick oven crust that is just a touch burnt on the edges".

Meredith:

Steak Foccacine

"Tender and flavorful hangar steak with mushrooms, sautéed spinach and brick oven bread. Not only was it delicious, it was a generous portion, especially for lunch. I still ate it all."

Sam:

The Norma pizza

"I thought it was great. Simple flavors that went really well together. All the ingredients tasted fresh and well made. Only thing I would change is to put a bit more basil on the pizza."

Sarah:

I had the Nizzarda Focaccine, which may be my new summer meal! Sicilian preserved tuna, anchovies, olives, string beans and red onion, all chilled and tossed in a basalmic vinaigrette and then served on a warm, crispy focaccine! I was surprised and pleased that it was 1. a cold sandwich 2. Such a generous portion. It made a great lunch and would also be perfect with a glass of white wine, on a hot summer afternoon or shared with a friend as an after work snack.

Jennifer:

I had the Toscana: the mozzarella, pulled chicken, onions, potato, rosemary, fontina. I especially liked the way the mozzarella, chicken and onions (onions are a fave) worked together to create this savory and filling meal. It was so generous I had to take the remainder to go. But lets just say my remaining slices didnt quite make it to the end of the day.

Hey, try it for yourself. You'll see. The pizzas and focaccines are brick oven creations, new to the menu. Anima Italian Bistro, call or stop in: 718.422.1122, 458 Myrtle avenue (between Waverly and Washington Avenues).

Please Take a Quick Shopper Survey

The Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) has partnered with a number of neighborhood organizations, like ours and the organizations working to revitalize Fulton Street (FAB Alliance and PACC) to help us gauge interest in particular market sectors in the local area. For Myrtle Avenue, this could mean a new clothing store. For Fulton Street, this could mean a new cafe or coffee venue.

Please take a few moments to complete the two brief online surveys below. We'd really appreciate it.

---

BEDC along with the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, FAB (Fulton Area Business) Alliance, and PACC (Pratt Area Community Council) have partnered up to attract several new businesses to your area.

But we cannot do so alone - WE NEED YOUR HELP!

This week we have launched a survey of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill residents about their coffee drinking and clothes buying habits. We are committed to finding business that will complement the existing retail character and provide a much-needed amenity for the neighborhood.

It would be EXTREMELY helpful if you took just a few minutes to fill out the following two surveys:

COFFEE FOR FULTON

Thank you so much for your time. Please spread these links to your friend and family in the area!

Best Regards,

Sandy

Help Bring an Apple Store to Brooklyn

If you haven't heard the news or seen the video, it's time to tune in. Last Thursday, Borough President Marty Markowitz used his new iPad to send an email to Apple's Steve Jobs touting Brooklyn as an obvious choice for an Apple retail store. Personally, we'd say the best location is the 15,000-square-foot, ground floor retail space in Pratt's new Myrtle Avenue building, but anywhere in Brooklyn will do.

Here's the full text of Marty's email to Mr. Jobs:

Dear Mr. Jobs:

As you surely know, in the creative world, theres no place hotter than Brooklyn, USA. Just like Apple, Brooklyn is now an international brand, signifying the coolest place on earth to live, work, play and create.

I know youre always dreaming up the next big thingheres a suggestion: Hit the big time and bring an Apple store to Brooklyn!

As we speak, Manhattans got four Apple stores, and our suburb of Staten Islands even got one. Its time to bring the goods to the real marketthe Mac-loving designers, writers, artists, bloggers, musicians, creative innovators and tech entrepreneurs in Brooklyn neighborhoods like Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, Park Slope and Carroll Gardens, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, DUMBO, Red Hook and beyond.

Downtown Brooklyn is the third largest business hub in New York Citywith more college students than Cambridge, Massachusetts. And these days, tourists visiting NYC are staying in Brooklyn hotels, dining at our renowned Brooklyn restaurants, hitting our clubs and cultural hot spots (and hey, if they want to take a day trip to Manhattan, thats okay!).

One more thing...

As Brooklyn borough president, I invite you to come to Brooklyn for a meeting, tour our borough and explore possible sites. I will even visit you in Cupertinoone hour is all I askand make the pitch of a lifetime for the biggest retail launch of the decade.

Lets make Apple Brooklyn the ultimate prototype storeone that changes the game yet again, with a retail experience that offers superior educational outreach and catalyzes entrepreneurial partnershipsa kind of e-town square.

This is my official invitation: Lets make it happen! An Apple Store Grows in Brooklyn!

Sincerely,
Marty Markowitz
