Bike NY: Kids can learn to ride a two-wheeler!
The Learn to Ride Class - Kids class teaches a safe, easy, effective way to learn to ride. Participants learn the basics of balancing, starting, stopping, and steering a bike, as well as proper helmet fit and adjustment. Most kids will learn to ride their bike while taking the class, but even if they don't, they will leave with an easy, hands-free, crash-free, and low-stress way to learn to ride. The class is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is suggested. Register online at www.bikenewyork.org, or stop by between 11am and 2pm with your bike and helmet! The Truck Farm stops by the food block!
The Truck Farm, a project by Wicked Delicate, combines green roof technology, organic compost and heirloom seeds to create living, mobile garden on the streets of Brooklyn. An Arts Carnival presented by Pratt Student Activities
Fun for all ages! Weigh in on an art battle at 12pm, get your face painted, participate in a hula contest, try your hand a chalk drawing, get your caricature done, and pick up a free balloon! All free, beginning at noon! (Myrtle between Ryerson and Grand)
Community Mural-Making with SONYA
Join local artist Ellie Balk and South of the Navy Yard Artists (SONYA) in a collaborative mural-making event! All paint and supplies will be provided. Bring your friends, children, grandparents, neighbors and be ready to get creative and messy as we add color and energy to Myrtle Avenue! This activity takes place between Hall and Ryerson beginning at 11am.

Local resident Karen Bishop will lead a free origami workshop on Myrtle between Clinton and Waverly beginning at 11am.

Brooklyn Urban Arts Market
This is an annual open-air market anchored by live music, DIY fashion, and local creative culture, brought you by BAM, Rebel Music Management and MARP. Stage Life Youth DJs open it up at noon, followed by J.U.S. Evolution at 2pm. Dance (or skate) to the old-school jams of DJs Soul Summit at 3pm. Get your trendy back-to-school shopping done too! Green Transportation Fun with Livable Streets Education
Livable Streets Education will be leading family-friendly games and activities from 11am-2pm on Myrtle between Clinton and Waverly. Kids can investigate the reasons why pedestrians, cyclists, and mass transit riders help the environment. Families will be able to learn together about carbon footprint, alternative transportation, and innovative street design. They can also learn why Zozo, our big purple friend, loves when we travel "by feet, by train, by bike, by bus!" Activities include educational coloring pages, a large chalk street mural, and a fun 'redesign the street' felt board!

Parks Department's Fitness Unit, hoops, ropes and sidewalk chalk
Every week, we’re setting out hula hoops, jump ropes and sidewalk chalk so that kids (both young and young at heart) can express themselves. Also this week, the Parks Fitness Unit will join us, bringing the Wii Fit! (Waverly and Washington)
Mmmm…Cooking Demos and Free Tastings!
In front of Associated Supermarket (between Hall and Washington), we’re setting up a cooking station where healthy food will be prepared by local chefs of all ages! Teen Iron Chefs return (12pm-2pm) to host interactive cooking demonstrations with seasonal, locally grown produce donated by Greenmarket farmers. Taste the fare of soon-to-open Sans Souci, a new Caribbean restaurant on Myrtle between Washington Park and Carlton, from 2pm-4pm.
Composting demos with Brooklyn Compost Project
The Brooklyn Compost Project will disseminate information about composting and will also have a worm bin composting demonstration from 11:30am-6pm, between Hall and Ryerson. The Brooklyn Compost Project is funded by New York City Department of Sanitation’s (DSNY) Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling and hosted by Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG).
Plaza Design Workshop
Hopefully you’ve heard that a new permanent pedestrian plaza is coming to Myrtle between Emerson and Grand, and the design phase has begun. Come share your design ideas, drawings and photos with MARP staffers at our “Plaza Design Tent” in front of the post office at Myrtle and Grand.
Myrtle Windows Gallery – Artist Talk
Beginning at Pillow Café (505 Myrtle)at 4pm, join artists from the current MWG installation on a guided tour of installed works.
The BRANCH Project
The Citibank parking lot at Clinton and Myrtle will be transformed into a temporary library branch, free to everyone! Continuing their outreach which began last week, volunteer designers and librarians from Branch will work with local residents and visitors, kids and adults, to plan and design the space. Come out and tell us how the library should look and what kind of books and activities it should offer. Enjoy our Quiet Zone: relax on lawn chairs with copies of your favorite Sunday paper--and ear-plugs!
