"The Prom Queen Project": Just Because Salon

Carol Thomas, the owner of Just Because Salon, located at 141 Carlton Avenue is featured in today's NY Daily News in a 'Spotlight on Great People' article by reporter Clem Richardson.

When biz owner, Carol Thomas, along w/stylist, Donna Norris found out about the mandatory senior fees that might prevent many teens at nearby Dr. Susan S. McKinney Secondary School of the Arts from attending their senior prom, she stepped in.

Enter "The Prom Queen Project," as Ms. Thomas is calling the endeavor to supply everything from new hairstyles, to manicures, to prom dresses and shoes to 6 senior girls at the high school.

The girls were selected after a very rigorous selection period which included an essay contest and demonstrating good grades and financial need.

Many local businesses have stepped in to assist including Myrtle Avenue's Polish Bar, which will be helping w/manicures for some of the young ladies. Folks at the Fort Greene Association have also provided support through research to identify organizations which might be able to lend financial support to the endeavor.

In the meantime, Thomas says, "We are going to make this happen somehow." She adds, "I live, work and shop in Brooklyn and I just want to give something back."
