We're Watering Myrtle's Trees

So we're rolling out a new look for our Treegators. This stencil will soon be on all the Treegators to let people know the purpose of Treegators: they hold 20 gallons of water to give the trees slow-drip irrigation; we fill them twice each week.

Here are some of the benefits that trees provide for Myrtle Avenue businesses and properties.

1. Trees provide shade to hot streets to reduce the temperature from 5-9 degrees to make shopping more pleasant during summer months.

2. Studies have shown that shoppers prefer shaded commercial districts and will shop at those places more frequently and will spend 11% more for goods from those areas. Learn more from the University of Washington.

3. Trees increase property values. Learn more from the Arbor Day Foundation.

4. Trees also provide many environmental benefits, such as noise reduction, carbon sequestration, and they reduce groundwater runoff.
