Watering Myrtle's Trees

You may have noticed the green bags that we've put on Myrtle Avenue's smaller trees. The bags are called Treegators; they're drip irrigation bags. Each Treegator stores 20 gallons of water, which drips water for about 6 hours. This method is better than pouring water on the soil because Treegators allow water to slowly penetrate into the soil to get to the lower roots.

We've installed 36 Treegators on young trees. As part of the BID's regular activities, the Treegators will be filled once a week from now until late summer.

By the way, as part of our ongoing effort to green Myrtle Avenue, this month we had 9 new trees planted on the Avenue, and with the help of Treegators we hope to make sure they're well taken care of.
