Brig Site Redevelopment Announced

The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) today announced that Navy Green Joint Venture won the contract to redevelop the former Brig site. The joint venture is a partnership of Dunn Development Corporation and L&M Equity Participants, Ltd. The architecture team includes FXFowle Architects, Curtis + Ginsberg Architects LLP and Architecture in Formation.

The 103,000 square foot site is bounded by Flushing Avenue to the north, Park Avenue (and BQE) to the south, Clermont Avenue to the east, and Vanderbilt Avenue to the west. The new mixed-use community will include:

  • 434 Residential Units
  • Commercial Space, anticipating a café, restaurant and eco-friendly dry cleaner
  • Open Space
  • Community Facility with visual arts center and day care
  • Sustainable Design (LEED Certification)
Approximately 77 percent of the residential units will be affordable to families earning between 30 percent and 130 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI), which is equivalent to $21,250-$92,170 for a household of four.

The affordable housing is part of Mayor Bloomberg’s New Housing Marketplace Plan to build and preserve 165,000 units of affordable housing over ten years.

okki's Gravatar I called HPD regarding that very same question. The woman told me to keep a look out on their website for announcements about a waiting list. Since construction isn't due to start until late 2008, it may be a while.
