Made in Wallabout: Sweet'N Low

The New York Industrial Retention Network's (NYIRN) Zoning for Jobs blog points us to a great look inside the operations of local manufacturer Cumberland Packing, by way of Beirut's music video for "Scenic World".

Cumberland Packing Corp., headquartered at 2 Cumberland Street (at Flushing) with additional facilities inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard, manufactures Sweet'N Low, Sugar in the Raw, Nu-Salt, and other products. NYIRN's Zoning for Jobs coalition, of which MARP is a member, aims to increase public awareness of the critical role that New York City's 230,000 blue-collar industrial jobs play in our economy. The coalition advocates for tools that will enable the city to:

*Target new development to where it is needed most without inciting real estate gentrification in adjacent areas;
*Provide stable industrial areas that promote reinvestment and job creation;
*Nurture New York’s unique, mixed-use neighborhoods that combine industrial, residential and commercial uses;
*Give communities the ability to fine-tune local zoning so it meets their needs.
