150 Myrtle: Apps Available for Affordable Units

Condo applications are now available for 150 Myrtle Avenue. Forty two (42) units will be available at restricted prices for eligible buyers. Households that earn no more than 195% AMI ($138,255/year) are eligible to purchase these homes. There are 10 studios, 22 one-bedrooms, and 10 two-bedrooms being offered. Preference in the lottery for 50% of these units will be given to current residents of Community Board 2.

A 600-square-foot apartment for 425K. That's what passes for affordable housing, I guess. Get your lottery ticket now.

Wow, whose warped sense of affordability is this? What middle to upper-middle income person/family can "afford" 485K for what is essentially a box much less the 10 - 20% down payment? Who'd want to pay that much for such a small space anyway? Of course this is not including taxes, insurance, closing costs and other random fees... Either you have to be in the lower class to qualify for Gov assistance, projects, subsidies or rich to pay for all of these things outright...
