Grocery Survey: FG/CH Residents Head to the City for Gourmet Foods

While an overwhelming number of shoppers in Fort Greene & Clinton Hill are purchasing local for general grocery items, a significant number head for Manhattan or other Brooklyn neighborhoods to satisfy their organic and gourmet grocery needs. Our recent online grocery shopping survey had over 850 respondents, with over 40% of them regularly going to Manhattan stores to meet their gourmet or specialty grocery needs. If Fort Greene and Clinton Hill had more options for freshly baked bread, gourmet cheeses, organic meat, prepared foods, and other "specialty" items, residents would be shopping closer to home, benefiting our community with more convenient shopping, increasing local foot traffic, local job creation, and otherwise keeping our spending dollars closer to home. As we continue to work toward attracting entrepreneurs to meet this demand, don't hesitate to contact us with any leads. And check out the full survey findings or a one page summary in the following PDF documents.

betsy's Gravatar I go to the farmers market every weekend for bread and anything else I can find. Otherwise I order from fresh direct. Ft Greene definetly needs a better quality grocery store, that would be great!!
